February 2017

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Throughout the development of the Hispanic ministry in Indiana, my family and I have faced challenging situations (e.g. our visas, financial limitations, and others). However, we've never been left alone. Our glorious Lord and you—our faithful HOPE supporters—have been there for us. Brothers and sisters, once again I ask for your prayers for my wife Rut, please. In the last months, her medical condition has steadily worsened. Her pain is becoming more intense and, worse yet, the medications she now takes to help manage her pain bring with them debilitating side effects. February 13th was an extremely difficult day for Rut and her pain. Fortunately, the doctors and medical staff in the emergency room were able to help her.

At this point, I am planning to take Rut to the doctors in the Dominican Republic. However, I will make one more attempt here in the United States. Rut has not been examined or treated by a spinal specialist in the United States yet, and I am asking her physician to refer her to one as soon as possible. Please join us in praying that the new doctors can help Rut.

Congregations
Here is what is happening in the ministries. Lafayette’s congregation continues to progress as people have adjusted to attend the Sunday services at 2:00 P.M. We feel this a good hour for non-Christians to attend our services and hope new folks will join our services this spring and summer.

In Monticello, Jorge Palencia is doing a great job, with some new people attending the Sunday services. Jorge also has Bible studies in Logansport during the week. Currently, I am preaching at Monticello every other Sunday.

Thankfulness
I’m thankful for all of you who support the HOPE ministries with your donations and prayers. I also want to thank the English-speaking churches who allow the Hispanic congregations to use their facilities. Those Churches are: Elmwood Church of Christ at Lafayette, Church of Christ at Logansport, and Christ’s Church at Monticello.

Prayers needed
Please continue praying for Rut’s medical condition. Also, please pray that our Lord raises up a leader who can work in combination with Jorge Palencia in Monticello; and pray that we can find a leader for the congregation of Lafayette. Thus, I can preach and teach the gospel in other towns and cities in Indiana. In addition, (as always it seems, but God continues to provide!) please pray for HOPE’s financial status. We struggle to have enough at times to meet expenses. We are staying above $0 in the checking account, but barely!
